What happened???

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

I have to say that everyone watching the LSU vs Ole Miss game at our house last night was perplexed at the end of this game.  It was just strange, really.

And unfortunately for Les Miles, it looks like the Baton Rouge TV Station made their minds up pretty quickly about what happened.  I bet the PR people at LSU were working overtime to figure out how to turn this one around.  Whatever their story is, they better get it out quick because the perception of what happened last night doesn’t look good - whether it’s accurate or not…

The Shut Out Deserves a Shout Out!

Woo Hoo!

45-0 is a nice game, even if it is against UT-Chattanooga.

My favorite quote came before the game from the UT-Chatt Coach, Russ Huesman: “Every game we’ve played this year, I told our team, ‘Guys, we’re better than they are. We’ve got a better team than they do,’” Huesman said. “This is the first week I haven’t said that. They wouldn’t believe me if I said it anyway.”

The Tide took care of business for its seniors:

Eryk Anders, Javier Arenas, Alex Benson, Evan Cardwell, Terrence Cody, Drew Davis, Brandon Deaderick, P.J. Fitzgerald, Hampton Gray, Baron Huber, Marquis Johnson, Mike Johnson, Tyrone King, Mike McCoy, Colin Peek, Cory Reamer, Chris Rogers, Brian Selman, Ali Sharrief, Leigh Tiffin, Heath Thomas, Jacob Vane, Roy Upchurch, A.J. Walker, Byron Walton, Lorenzo Washington and Justin Woodall.

Roll Tide!!!  Seniors - We are proud of you!

Nothin’ like the State of Mississippi…

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

OleMissLogo.gif

Ya know, there’s nothin’ like the State of Mississippi to do absolutely nothing to dis-spell those stereotypes that most of us from the South try desperately to leave in the past.

The Ole Miss President stirred up a hornet’s nest earlier this week by asking the school’s marching band to stop playing “From Dixie With Love” because a group of students refused to quit chanting “The South Will Rise Again” after it was played.

The KKK then requested and has been given permission to march on the Ole Miss campus 4 hours prior to the Ole Miss vs LSU game on Saturday.

Students are expected to counter-protest, and plan to wear “Turn Your Back on Hate” t-shirts.

And to top it all off, national TV (CBS Sports) will be on hand to capture it all.

Anyone else have a feeling that this might get ugly?

WTF, Mark Mangino???

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

When I first started hearing about this story, I kind of felt like it was probably sour grapes…people who were just pulling out old shit on the guy because he started to lose football games.

But if the stories that are coming out today are true, then maybe this guy needs to seriously reconsider whether or not he should continue working with young people and *helping* them better themselves through football.

But hey, he’s probably been great for Kansas therapists!

Who are the Mocs?

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Since we are playing a non-conference game this weekend, I had to go digging again for some info on our opponent.

I knew nothing about UT Chattanooga except for the blatantly obvious.  So, I decided to dig a little.

UT Chattanooga is a member of the Southern Conference (think teams like Appalachian State, Furman, Western Carolina and Samford).

They come to Tuscaloosa this weekend with a 6-4 record - much improved over their 2008, 1-11 record - and with a new head-coach, Russ Huesman, who has done a lot for the program in his brief tenure.

Players to watch:

Moc’s quarterback B.J. Coleman is a sophomore transfer to UT Chatt from UT (yes, the Vols) who has thrown for 2,312 yards this season (19th in the nation in passing yards).

Blue Cooper, a senior wide receiver, comes in to this game with 150 career catches and 1,773 career receiving yards.

Defensive ends - Joshua Williams and Josh Beard (Josh & Josh to UTC fans) - have 19 sacks on the year.

Fun Fact:

The Mocs are used to playing for a home crowd that averaged 10,543 per game in 2009.

Wouldn’t you like to know what those players will be thinking as they come into a stadium filled with 92,000 fans?

Vote for Coach Saban - Coach of the Year

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Coach Saban is up for Liberty Mutual’s Coach of the Year award - AGAIN!  He won it last year - let’s help him repeat!

You can go online and vote once each day.

The winning coach receives a $50,000 donation to charity and a $20,000 donation to the University’s Alumni Association - so this could be a great opportunity for Nick’s Kids and for the University of Alabama Alumni Association
