It’s a clear, crisp morning in Lexington and with the high expected to be only 66 degrees, it definitely feels like football weather!
The talk this week, it seems, has focused on everything but Kentucky. From Dont’a Hightower’s injury, to recruiting wars, to “trap” games - the media at least hasn’t given much attention to Rich Brooks and his Wildcats. Let’s hope that our team hasn’t been as scattered.
I don’t know why, but I like Rich Brooks. He’s one of those hard-ass coaches that yells on the sidelines - and I like those qualities in a coach! But he admittedly had problems last week focusing his team on the task at hand - the Florida Gators. And other than knocking Tebow out - the Wildcats looked pretty tame.
This week, Brooks has practiced first team against first team to try to get his kids up for this week’s game with the Tide, and said that he’d know if it worked on Saturday.
Well, today’s the day, and I certainly hope that the distractions of the week (at least the ones that the media has played up) don’t end up being distractions on the field for the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Coach Saban has commented this week that a game is only a trap if his team lets it be one. And with so much “trap” talk this week, certainly this team isn’t going to overlook the Cats. Saban has also talked about the running threat that Kentucky poses, as well as the skill players on their team. So, at least our coaching staff has their heads in the right place.
And let’s not forget, that this Alabama team only has to look at last year’s game score (17-14 in the Tide’s favor) to see that Kentucky can be a real threat.
In an unrelated chick-bit - a Tennessee fan and former player told me yesterday that today’s game against Auburn isn’t a sell-out and that the students returned 3,000 tickets to the ticket office. 3,000 tickets??? This isn’t a morning game or Western Kentucky. This is a night-game that’s gotten more hype than any other SEC game besides Georgia vs LSU, and students are returning 3,000 tickets? Could it be that Kiffen-mania is waning? I guess we’ll see tonight.
